Adding sand

Has anyone ever added new sand to an established tank I have siphoned old sand and wondering what and how to add new sand. Live or dry which is best

I have. I had too fine of sand at one point and wanted a bigger/heavier to allow for more flow. During WC, I siphoned out about 1/4- 1/3 of sand and replaced with new stuff. Repeat until done. I used live sand bc I did WC every week. Didn't truly know if the new dry sand would colonize in that time. Tank showed no signs of stress or mini cycle during that time. Good luck!

I haven't done a complete swap back to back. But my guess is that you are probably going to have some kind of cycle or swing. I would just ride out the cycle/swing and try not to mess with it for a while. I mean, don't chase trying to adjust your po4, no3 or dkh. I would monitor by testing every day or other day.

I would do a water change and use the old water to sit the new sand some days then use a pvc to slowly put it in
