My personal top 5 things to be aware of when starting a new tank.

Being new, this is good advice. I always am adding new corals, (not too much into the fish yet) but my tank got filled up pretty quickly, and now I am making sure to keep caught up on supplements, feedings- who eats what etc. I'm sure I should have mastered one coral species before heading to 4 other kinds.... patience is key your right :) (and research!)

I would add that you should plan to replace your heater every 2-3 years. I cooked my tank a few months back due to a faulty heater...an $80 maintenance cost could save you hundreds in coral replacement, not to mention heartache.

I would recommend always using filtered RO water. With my first tank I didn't always follow this rule and tended to have more algae.
