Sorry for all the questions over last couple months, but I'm doing some changes and upgrades. I had reef tank for about 7 years. I think Im doing good after a lot of begining mistakes. I always used DI unit < made by one of the local stores>. Main reason was I did not want to waste so much water. I know many people still try to use it for flowers or other staff. Anyway I decided to buy now RODI unit. I need your advice what brand is the best. How many filters should I get. I see like 3 or 4 < three standing and one horizontal ower thouse three>. Please help me again. Thanks.

You can get the 4 stage 90gpd ro/di "refurb" direct from Spectrapure with all brand new filters and membrane for $120 right now (they discalimer the "hardware" may have blemishes from being returned). Im still considering ordering one, but $1/gallon for pre-mix from my LFS is still too good to beat in the long run, no mixing, no extra containers/heaters/powerheads to keep track of for mixing, etc..... Once the price goes up at the LFS, I will probably order one up. From all the research Ive put into it, Spectrapure seems to be the way to go as far as customer satisfaction and overall performance.

I also have the spectrapure 90 gpd. It fills up a 5 gallon bucket in about a hour.

I also had to buy a booster pump to increase the water pressure to the membrane. I am not sure what you water pressure is at your place but you need around 80 PSI to be running at an optimum level. If you opt out of the booster pump you will end up replacing your expensive filters more regularly, produce MUCH more waste water, and produce good water MUCH slower. If you don't already have a TDS meter I would consider purchasing a unit that includes both an inline TDS meter and a booster pump. It is a little more upfront cost... but I think you will be happier in the long run.

"EyeReef" - (Mike - Administrator) was selling a brand new RO/DI unit from BRS; maybe it's still for sale.

I guess this one does not have it. Do you know what brand have all that staff include? < booster pump and TDS meter>

$200 Spectrapure 90gpd 4 stage RODI for $120 refurbed with brand new filters, membrane and resin cartridge is a pretty tough price to beat. That's one of many reasons anyone would use a brand other than BRS... Look up the brand, Ill guarantee more people will stand behind the quality and customer service of Spectrapure over BRS. Not that BRS is a bad choice, but if you want to talk bottom dollar price for top quality product...

I thought Spectrapure had a unit that included a booster pump. I am going off of my bad memory when I was shopping for one awhile ago. I know they come with inline TDS meters.

Here is a booster pump so you have a idea of what it looks like.

I did not buy this exact one... I actually bought a generic one off amazon for much less and hooked it up after realizing my water pressure was too low. I will check which pump I grabbed when I get home.

The booster pump I grabbed was an Aquatech CDP 8800 from amazon. I think it was about half the price as others at an aquarium supply store. I have to plug it in to power it up every time I turn on my RODI but I think you can buy/hook up an switch that does it automatically.

Thanks for all informations. I will try to order that refurbished ones from spectacure. Will see if they still have them. One thing it scares me in RODI units is all that waste water...

Yeh, unfortunately they are not efficient. My friend hooked up his unit next to his washing machine so the waste water would at least be used to do a load of laundry... which is a great idea. Unfortunately, in my case, it does not really work with apartment living.
