DaveWF's Bodacious Biocube

Ok, let's be honest, the real reason I'm here is for the $100 contest... you know it and I'm honest about it ;)

I picked up my 29 gallon Biocube almost exactly a year and a half ago off of CraigsList. When I got it, it was completely stock. Since purchasing I foolishly spent way too much money to get the power compact lighting upgrade to bring me from 2 crummy bulbs to 4 crummy bulbs. Best money I ever threw away! Since then, when I started getting serious, I have added (in this order)the standard DIY Biocube refugium light in section 2, a ReefLEDLights.com DIY LED kit (25 LEDS - 16 blue, 8 cool white & 1 red), MP10es for some crazy flow, Tunze 9002 skimmer (with DIY mod & upgraded collection cup) & a JBJ ATO.

I have a predominantly SPS dominated tank with a small handful of LPS and a softie or 3 hidden in there.
To give you an idea of what's changed since getting the LEDS, here's a picture of my tank the day I completed my LED build:

Here it is a couple days ago...

Yeah, the whites were shutting down so it's awfully blue but you get the idea. Also, when rearranging my rockwork after selling of a couple of 'nems I knocked off a couple of mounted SPS' (ask me how happy I am about that) so 90% of my SPS is currently in the various frag racks while I try to figure out exactly where things should be ending up.

Well, that's about it.... for now. But you know I'm going to swing by AquaPros tomorrow for his grand re-opening :elefant:

Looks good Dave! Question - where's your mp10? Also, I'd love to see some pics of all the mods you've done and your equipment. My first tank about 13 years ago was a heavily modified Eclipse setup back before there were store-bought Nano setups, and I'd love to see your mods too. :)

The MP10 is right behind the new multi-tier frag rack no the left side. I'll get some new pics tomorrow when the lights come back on.
I had a really nice build thread over on "that other site with the P.I.A. mods" and don't want to rewrite everything, but the pics are all HERE.
Peruse them at your leisure and try to figure out the right order. ;)

what is the time lapse between the photos? The coraline looks great. Also, what is that attached to the back wall? GSP? I was sort of thinking about trying to attach some to see if it would take.

The first picture was taken, as best as I can tell, August 31 2011. The second picture was on Monday 3-12-12.
You wanna see something cool??
Check this out... this is when I installed the LEDs:

See that little brown hairy thing in the bottom left? That, my friends, is the huge millipora colony in the top middle of the "after" picture in my first post! How awesome is THAT?

The back wall has a colorful clove polyp growing on it. It's almost as bad as GSP. Anything that the base touches becomes slowly covered in it. You want some??
