Tangency's 90 Gallon

Your tank is looking amazing! There's a very good chance that in the near future I may be starting up at 90 gallon mixed reef and this build has provided me with a lot of ideas and inspiration! It's also bad because this tank makes me want to pull the trigger on the whole project that much faster! I'm looking forward to being totally broke!

thanks for the compliments everyone.

I shoot through the glass. Good/fast lens glass makes a huge difference. It seems my results have been the best when I use manual settings meaning manual focus, raise the ISO as much as I can before it starts looking grainy, stop down, bump up contrast and saturation in the camera settings. And for every 500 or so pictures I take of my fish I get one or two decent ones. I need to grab a macro lens!

It has been awhile since I last update so I thought I would share my troubles and progress. First, the troubles...

I set up an ATO to dose kalk at night. Needless to say, the float switches didn't always trigger to keep up with evaporation. Frustrated, I decided to top off via a controller timer instead. Months later, I am still tuning it in.

I purchased a magnesium test kit only to find out my magnesium levels were a little low. I decided to use Kent's Tech M to raise it. I did some math with the reef calculator and apparently dosed too quickly. Within two days (adding about a cup) it bleached my tank. colors are finally starting to come back. I have started adding magnesium again, this time much much slower.

Some coral colors seem to be fading. I understand they differ per tank but doesn't mean it isn't frustrating. For now, I am reading others methods to improve color and maybe I will see some common habits.

Now the good news...
Despite bleaching and general color problems.... I seem to be getting really good growth. Almost every SPS coral (except for millepora, and two acro frags) have all doubled in size. The frogspawn has gone from 2 heads to 7, hammer has doubled, mushrooms are spread and the green star polyp has tripled in size and the fish seem happy.

I will post a new full tank shot once my new tripod arrives.

great looking pictures...what's your camera set up?
Thanks. Yours too. I like the rimless tanks a lot.
My camera setup is a d90, tripod, and a remote speedlight. I switch between a 50 mm prime and a 18-85mm. I would love to add a 105 macro or 70-200vr2 to the bag.

Great pictures!! I also use my RKL timer as my ATO/kalk.. Turns on every hour for 1min.. Dont have any issues as I can always adjust the times. Just need a SL1 to control the ATO if PH goes up 8.5

I worked on aquarium maintenance this weekend. I killed a few aptasia with kalk paste, cleaned Corraline buildup from powerheads with vinegar, scraped the glass with a razor, aquascaped, and purchased a few new acropora to enjoy.
