Parasite?

What a beautiful fish! Still worrisome though, wonder what that thing was. I suppose with it receding that's a good thing? Sure hope so!

look at the spacing and the tip of w/e that is. I really do think it's a healing broken rib. Any rocks ever collapse in the past? There is no redness or wound look to it. I have to think if a geiger chest exploder where on it way out of him it would be more woundy. IMHO FWIW and AFAIK.

yea a rock fell recently  i was using the mag float to get some stubborn stuff, really going at it. Top rock fell... If he were under it he would have been dead for sure tho. Maybe urchin stabbed em? Big hit by the borb?

I KNOW WHAT IT IS......

ALIENS .... I SEEN IT IN A MOVIE ONCE>>> THIS THING BE BUSTN OUT DIS GUYS **** YO!! ..OOPS I WAS WATCHING BOON DOCKS>>> I meant a foreign entity ejected from out this gentleman's chest

Lil guy passed today :( He was acting weird, weird enough for me to actually catch him. Tried moving him to a qt, but he passed a few hours later. While acclimating, hate myself for not taking pics of this, he had weird lumps in his stomach. He looked really fat, and there were two lumps on his gut that looked odd. :rip:

His whole body looked kind of red, the white parts of his body were almost translucent when i got him in the qt. I was considering cutting him open after I pulled em out.

Ok, google mycobacterium marinum. See if it looks similar. Typically manifests as large lumps or larger red pimples. Nasty stuff. Pretty sure I had a blenny die of it back in the day.

Idk if that was it, the sores weren't red, but almost his whole body seemed reddish through his white scales. The lumps didn't look red, but I squeezed the corpse a lil bit and blood was the first thing that came out, or some other red liquid. He hasn't been eating the last few days, been hiding almost all day. I think that is because of the new fish additions tho.

Ok doesn't sound too probable. "Fish disease" by Noga does show in some species it does not manifest as external soars, but instead attacks organs. Otherwise the book doesn't have anything more specific to offer from your photos. It'd require disection and stained slides to give more.

Looking back I wish I would have cut em open, FOR SCIENCE!

I couldn't have provided stained slides tho :p Thanks for all the help man, have you dissected any fish that died unexpectedly?

Nope. Only fish I've had die w/o reason was the goby and that was before I had noga's book and the good microscope. Otherwise it's been surfing or tang induced trama.
