I'm thinking about trying to split some of my ricordeas, but I wouldn't wanna kill them. I just wanna do it for fun mostly.

I have a couple of huge yumas and the easiest way to frag them for me was to quite simply slice off small pieces from the foot of the polyp and within a week they are little yumas of their own. You can pretty much cut any part of a mushroom and it will grow into another polyp but the most popular fragging technique it seems is to cut the polyp in four equal pieces directly through the mouth.

We have a ricordia about 3" in diameter that I would like to split, but have been waiting on it to propogate naturally. Maybe ill manually frag it if it doesn't on its own.

Just too nervous to. Its big and I don't want to kill it.

Okay so when you cut them do you try to place them in rock crevices or do you glue them to things. If you use some kind of glue then what kind?

I use superglue gel for everything. Soft corals are hard though because they get slimy which obviously the glue has a problem working with. Dry them well before putting glue on (only dry them in the area where the glue will go, don't want to dry them out completely!).

I generally place them in a deep tupperware container with rubble and just let them attach themselves to pieces of ruble then it's much easier to glue them to plugs or whatever you want. It takes a bit for them to grab onto the rubble though so be patient. Google fragging mushrooms and there are videos on how to do it.

I have done the foot method, granted it was inadvertant when moving some rics I got from mcf to a rock, a few weeks later tiny ric's

Yeah, pls do. I'm curious. Have a small frag that grew into this HUGE carpet of ricordea and aren't sure what to do if it keeps getting larger.
