need all info on water chemistry i am new to saltwater so i have no idea where to start

ok i just got a 40 breeder and im gonna make the jump into saltwater and growing coral and what not lighting wise what exactly should i know? i dont know what kinds of coral i will have yet so suggestions are appreciated.
