Exotic Aquatics in Algonquin - Moving Sale

FYI...I stopped in Exotic Aquatic's yesterday and they are having a big moving sale. They're moving their shop to the other side of town and are trying to clean out the store. There was a lot on sale but the big ones I noticed were 25% off dry goods and 70% off your 2nd fish, coral, shrimp or nem.

    Temperature Param's

The temps in nature are typically warmer than most people keep their tanks and can go up to 84 safely. Some very respected reefers say 82 is the best for a reef tank and don't even turn their chillers on until 84. Take a look at these ocean temps from various places where our coral is collected...

Lost my 3rd favorite fish last night

My Pearlscale Butterfly was swiming and eating just fine yesterday. Then, when I went to bed I saw him breathing very fast and laying on the sandbed....right next to my dwarf lionfish !!! Coincidence, I think not...The lion is new and I think the Pearlscale was a bit to inquisitive :( Let's...

How Can We Help new Poll

Alright folks, the 19th isn't going to happen and the next weekend is a Holiday. As Dan said, we have a place to do this now all we need is someone to organize it. This shouldn't be that complicated...tables, chairs, cards, chips, BYOB, maybe a couple pizzas that we can chip in on. I have 2 x 6...

    Electricity Leaking !!! (or not)

So, during my normal Saturday morning maintenance ritual my index finger touched the water in my sump and I got quite a shock. I kept dipping it in the various chambers to see where the leak might be coming from. Much to my surprise I could feel a sting in each chamber. I then dipped my finger...

    Vinegar = SPS Fading ?

I'm trying to pinpoint why my sps have gradually lost their vibrance over the last few months. (They're not brown, just not as richly colored as they once were.) One of the things I'm trying to rule out is if vinegar may be the culprit...here's why I ask: Last fall as the temps in the house...

What, if anything, do you feed your SPS?

Seems like a lot of products out there that make a lot of claims. I'm wondering if folks feed their SPS and, if so, what do you feed? I feed cyclopeeze once a week and also Ocean's Blend Coral Vibrance once a week...

Issue with BRS 1 micron Carbon Block

Okay, so my new BRS 5 Stage RODI unit is only 2 months old and the 1 micron carbon block is clogged to the point that no water can pass through it. IMO, this is ridiculous. Has anyone else had any issues with clogged carbon blocks...:questionmark:

    Are Millies harder to keep...?

Don't know why but I had a saaweeeet Bubblegum Millie RTN 2 weeks ago and last night an almost as sweet Watermelon Millie. Both were growing nicely and had brilliant color and awesome polyp extension. The only noticable change was that the Watermelon started getting a lot more flow in last...

    Do Not Trust Anyone

I am perhaps as angry as I have ever been in my life right now....(at myself) Recently I acquired a new fish that was "quarantined" before I bought it. I decided to add it straight to my tank. EVERY other fish in my tank was quarantined by me with copper for 4 weeks before going into my tank so...

    Fish Size vs. Tank Size

I'm looking to get everyone's opinion about a topic of many heated arguements...putting a fish in a tank that is too small for them. But how do you define what size tank a fish should be kept? There is the obvious situation of a big fish in a small tank, and that is obviously not good nor is it...

    (Un)Happy as a Clam

I have 2 clams. The bigger one I've had it for ~ 8 months. The smaller one for about 2 months. For the last month they have not opened fully. I'm not sure what is going on. There is no visible injury or tissue damage. The coloration is the same. The only issue is that they don't fully open...

    Clam Situation

I've only had clams for about 6 months and my 2 maximas have been doing great. There has been significant growth and the mantle extension has always been good. For the last 3 days both of the clams have barely opened. They are not next to each other, nothing has stung them, my nitrates...
