    2x4 or 4x4 for 110 stand?

I've seen both listed as possible, but I want to be sure. 2x4 would obviously be easier to cut and work with, but I want to be sure it'll hold up. fishandtips.com has a DIY stand tool that says to use 4x4, but I can't tell if that's overkill or not. Any suggestions? We're talking over 1400...

    Closed loop pump strength

For my 110 I'm planning on a closed loop instead of more powerheads (and I'm hiding the ones I have in rock lol) but what strenght? I was debating on a 1625 oceanrunner or an iwaki if I get an email back... Any thoughts?

    Yogo's 110 build. A year long endeavor!

So, as most of you heard, bambam did the most generous PIF I've ever seen, and I now have a 110g double overflow tank. I am building the stand so it can be exactly how I want it. I would like to build a "wraparound" type, where a section of the sides are covered and the stand and canopy are...

    DIY reef rock

Just got back from a quick trip. Picked up a bag of crushed coral (15lbs) aragonite sand (30 lbs) Type 3 Portland cement, playsand, and rock salt. I'm gonna play a little experiment since I have some time before I set up my 110, so I'm gonna try and make some rock myself and perhaps rock up...

    Drill press guide

Does anyone here have a drill press guide? If not, would anyone be interested in splitting one? We could make it a CR shared tool like the PAR meter others were discussing. People are always drilling tanks, and it's not too expensive. If 4 or more join in, it's less than $10 a person...

Maintaining Ca and Alk and Mg

So, my parameters have been stable, just repleneshing the Ca and Alk and Mg as needed in my system since I've got some good coralline growth, and ordered my first sps, a green branching Monti. I currently dose BRS 2 part to maintain everything manually, usually required every few days at most...

    Is this a sea hare?

There were dozens of brittle stars and others in the caulerpa I got, and I saw this in my sump during my water change. Is this a sea hare?

    Trail left by cerith snail

This was left by my cerith. I'm going to assume eggs, but just want to make sure.

    My DIY water change

Now, it's not perfect, but it was a fun weekend project and has made my life a lot easier. Nothing fancy. In the rubbermaid is a Rio 2100, two maxijet 600, and a hydor heater. Holds 30 gallons max. Vinyl tubing siphons right down the sink drain. Until I get a fish room, it'll do :)

    Website Acronyms.

I know there's a huge list of these somewhere, but there's been a ton of questions about website orders and whatnot lately, so I felt it necessary to make a fresh, order-specific list: LA=Live Aquaria. Awesome internet supplier, also contains Drs. Foster and Smith for aquarium supplies, and...

    Yogo's updated system

Hey all! Tank has finished cycling, added some caulerpa to the fuge in the sump, after lots of extra research went with Chemi-Pure as my carbon replacement. I just can't trust carbon after what happened, and the ionic benefits of chemipure are also very, very desirable, and it doesn't remove...

    What is this?

After I dumped a bottle of Instant Oceans Bio-Spira into my tank when I started cycling (I know some like this idea and some don't, but BRS had good reviews, but anyway...) and now I have this white stuff on my glass that's not coming off. I'll get a pic up later, working right now, but I've...

    No Double Standards

More than once now, people get in arguements, things get said, and nothing happens to those in authority. Not to dig up old bones, but its happened with SkullV, and its happened with others, where mods are allowed to say things, but then others get warnings or banned for the same...

    What the crap just happened?

So, my pH was about 7.9 after a couple of days of running my system. I then tested my calcium and alk levels to make sure they were good. Cal was 420, and alk was 8. I usually run at 500 and 9-10 alk, so I went to brs (I use their 2 part) and added what was required (not a full dose for alk...

    Carbon vs. ChemiPure

So I've heard lots of good things about chemipure, but want some other info. After my disaster with Kent carbon, I'm scared to death of that stuff anymore, but if I need it, I'll use it. Anyone else here use chemipure with good results?

    Update to CR

Hey, I read on the chat that CR is getting the same upgrade as 1reef? If that's the case, I'm not a fan. I dunno if others have looked yet, but its a lot more off-putting and far less aesthetically pleasing. I like the personal and easy-on-the-eyes of CR and not looking for that to change...

    Starting Over

So, after this long bout, this weekend is clean-up. I've decided its best to just re-do EVERYTHING. I've taken my sump down and cleaned it. Going to hard-plumb this time instead of tubing. Cleaning off all rock, rinsing the sand really well, and just completely starting over. I don't want...

    Tank Crash--forced to start over

So as many of you have read both on here and 1reef, my tank finally crashed after battling the issues brought about by Kent Marine, and I lost all my livestock. Just fish, but still. Forced to start over, but it's better than nothing. I haven't lost my rock or sand thankfully. Coraline algae...
