Aquavitro Salinity by Seachem

Does anyone have any experience with this salt? I'm looking to switch salts and this one really piqued my interest.

Search around on the big sites. I think people have been unhappy with it if I'm remembering correctly.

I am in the same boat Walt,it looks good from reviews I found online. I will be buying a bucket this week, will see how my tank responds after water change.

I have and everyone seems to like the stuff. I found one reviewer who did not use it after his bucket was done, but it was because his LFS no longer got more in. I haven't read a bad review.

I am a big fan of seachem.
Salinity was the worst salt I have ever used. And I have used a lot of different brands.

Its a very 'hard' salt. When you put it in water, it phizzes and sizzles very loud. (Unlike a 'soft' salt that is silent and smooth when mixing with water). It smells like rotten eggs/ sulfur when mixing. There seems to be just too many chemicals in it. I have been burned by this salt when I touched salt that had a little water on it in my scooping cup. It formed a typical burn blister on my finger. It was small and went away after a week, but still...I have never been burned by any other salt before...
If we were trying to create saltwater for a chemistry lab using harsh chemicals, I would use this salt. I would not use it for my corals/fish.
It does not mix clean, it leaves a white residue.
Alkalinity is supposed to be batch guaranteed, but alkalinity is dangerously low (3.5-4 dkh), even for carbon dosed tanks.

Everyone I have talked to in person and online has had similar experiences. I only buy the best. I figured this would be the best because it looks really good on paper...I was wrong.

I used 3 buckets, not going back.

Just my experience/opinion.

What salt are you using Greg?

Right now, Tropic Marin Pro. (Standard, Non- Bioactiv)
Not perfect, but the best I've found right now, tried almost everything.
Older White bucket Red Sea Coral Pro was my favorite, but they changed formula and now it no longer works for me. 14+ dkh alt? No thanks....

Yeah, that is why I need new salt, did not noticed that ALK is so high in Red Sea salt.I run biopellets, need to keep my ALK around 7-8dKH.

Yah, TMP is what you want. Not the bioactiv one though. I want to be able to control my carbon source, not just dump all of it in once a week during a water change...
Alk is a solid 7 dkh for me on TMP. Calcium Mag and Potassium are all solid also. Cant test, but its supposed to be the best for trace minerals.

This stuff is great! I like it you actually use less salt because it seems to be more concentrated. the down side is it will make your tank cloudy for a bit! even if mixed properly. you can pre mix it a day ahead of time and your fine!

I used salinity for about 6 months when MCF had it in stock. I was pleased with the results but after a bucket or two I noticed the the salt was not mixing well and leaving tons of residue in my mixing vat. Never mixed clear it was always a cloudy white for a couple of hours of continues mixing, which always bothered me.

True you used less but it's was expensive and the only place that has it close was Old Orchird, I never buy from those crooks.

So now I am using Tropic Marin, mixes well very stable and batches are always constant. I think Fish Planet stocks it and a couple LFS that I trust.

This was my experience with it. Good luck with the search.

On the plus side the bukets are great!!! They have a air tight seal that keeps the salt clump free. I kept most of the empty buckets and now I just pour my new salt in the used bucket.
