Auto Feeders?

My tank can go easily a week without me touching it now (ATO direct from RO/DI, Skimmer feeds into floor drain) and I will be traveling quite a bit more coming up. Are the Eheim autofeeders that they sell at petco sufficient to feed pellets for a few days or is there another brand that is preferred? Ill basically have to just sit it on my mesh top. I have dendros, various SPS, LPS and Softies and way too many fish but my trips are rarely even 5 days. My wife is around but it is probably beter for all parties if she remains uninvolved with aquaria and I wouldn't mind being able to skip a night or two even when home. I appreciate your opinions.

I have 2 eheim auto feeders and i love them. I refill them about ever 2-3 weeks. It's just like an infomercial you set it and forget it. I feed both flake and pellets with them. I hope this helps.

I use the same ehiem on my QT, it works well once you get the slide taped to dose the proper amount. On my display I use the super-feeder. It is much more adjustable, feed more consistently, keeps food dryer and is controllable via apex or similar. $30 for an eheim and $100 for a super-feeder, both are good options.

The Ehiem works great the cheap 30.00 ones work I left for a few days and no issues. What most people complain about is the plastic that measures how much food comes out. I would tape it when you get the desired amount you want. I heard people have had issues with that

been using this one for NSL pellets for a couple years now and works great. Feeds the wrasses during the day, and I up the frequency when I leave on vacay

I've lost count how many times I've accidentally knocked this feeder in the tank. Always works fine after rinsing with RO and letting air dry a few days. With anthias and wrasses in the tank I wouldn't think of not using one.

Okie Dokie. I was sort of expecting a lecture on leaving my tank unattended. Looks like we have a consensus (and Fishbeard came out of hibernation for it so it must be good). Thanks guys.

oh...dont leave your tank unattended...last time i had my brother in law feed the fish I ended up with a dead flame angel + hair algae BOOM

My buddy has the eheim and swears by it. He travels a lot as well. I may even get one once I upgrade my tank in the next couple of weeks.

tagging along and sorry for hijacking ur thread herbs.. i'll be gone for 7 days and i have a borb.. should i leave the borb with someone to feed or should i get a feeder to feed it?

Don't leave unattended for long. Always have a babysitter to check on on things. We had one when I was out on vacation last and they never came by like they said and guess what.... crash. Lost of ton of WCR brood stock :( It can be running fine for years incident free... but your tank knows when you're gone and will decided to kill something in return for leaving it.

was thnking of taking him to a lfs to hold and feed and i'll pay or something

It'll be way more stressful on the fish to uproot it. Get an autofeeder and have a fiend or neighbor stop in and check the tank is running properly every other day.

I like the Eheim too, but I've knocked it into the tank as well before, didn't have luck reviving it...I decided to go with a slightly cheaper one this time and didn't like it, it either dumped too much or too little. Then I knocked it into the tank as well and it's done...lol

If I buy another, I'll go with the Eheim

they only had the turtle one today (after telling me they had none). I bought it because I am impatient and i had a coupon. I think it is actually identical to the regular fish one. I'll give it a ry while I am home to test it out.

Eheim works for me and I can go on vacation for 3 weeks without issues, but its better to have somebody check on it too since you my have other issues while your away.
