Bad luck

Long story short i had a major power outage a few months back that left me w.o power for 3 days. By the third day with no power it killed all my fish and all my SPS in my tank.. i was devasted, but by the time the power came back on my tabk barely survived. So anyway i let the system regain itself over 2 months with water changes like normal, so last week everything seemed to be fine. So on thursday i decided it was time to get some fish back into the system. I just planned on getting a pair of perc clowns to start off, so i bought a pair. Got them home everything seemed fine they were super active and eating good. When i came home from work yesterday one was hugging the bottom and doest look like its gunna make it. This is the 3rd time ive bought a pair of clowns to just have one of them die. Is it just me and my system when it comes to not being able to keep a pair, or do you guys experience the same things from time to time.

It didnt seem like it at all, they would chase eachother but for the most part the one would just super active and the other seemed less active and a lighter color orange then the other one.

Yup one of the clowns bit the dust.. nothing new here but the other one is fine. Now i just worry about if i wait too long to inroduce another that hell get beat up on.

Yea i really think that one of them i bought had to be sick or something. The other one is completely fine and never picked on it.

Do you Drip and temp acclimate fish when you get them ?

some fish will be fine even if you just dump them in but some wont take it easy.

also 2 things .. may be Run carbon for some time so that it would take away any toxins from the die off (if there is any) and Check that your heaters and power heads are not leaking electricity ...

sorry for your losses buddy but i never had problems with clowns.

oh one more thing that skips our mind .. what are you feeding them ? if its frozen and if its from before the power outage then its gone bad IMO

I dripped them for 2 hours and i floated them. Yea everything seems normal and u feed them marine cuisine and it was purchased after the outage. Fridge and freezer was gutted.

Sorry for your loss, I've only had bad luck with clowns if they were initially not healthy. Everyone is an individual, some tougher than others.

A lot of the time the clown that gets beat up more hugs either the ground or the surface or near the corner for a while. Depends on the level of harassment.

Pertaining to worrying about adding a new one, the longer you wait the more chances the one in the tank turns into a female. I have found success getting a smaller (sometimes much smaller) clown for the individual in the tank. The little guy knows his place and the big one is happy to keep him there. Had luck with a regular percula added to a picasso and they hit it off immediately the big picasso even shared her home with the little guy immediately.

So smaller is better.

Just a thought here. You said that these are the first fish you've added since you lost all of them a couple months ago. Were you feeding the tank somehow to keep the biological filter working when it was fishless? If not, this might be a cycling issue and not a sick or harassed fish issue. Have you checked for ammonia, nitrite?

I'd recommend putting new fish into a QT and inspect them daily and treat the tank with some common safe medications.
