best lightning for a 220g

I am building a 220g reef tank...kinda new to big tanks...would like to have any and all coral that I could decide to grow...what should my light setup be??

All the help would be appreciative!

All depends on you! Ultimately you are the one that has to pay and look a the tank everyday.

There are two kinds of reefers here.

1. The ones that use Metal Halides/T5
2. The ones that use LED's

Both will swear up and down that the other is the best. You just opened a can of worms.

Thanks Luna! Glad someone recognized me. Its 30" tall, so quite deep. I dont want to go all out and spend a ton of money on the lights, as I said first big tank so we're trying to be as budget friendly as possible. As for looks, it needs to have the vibrant deep tones. I like the 14000K i believe in lighting. LEDS I think are a little too overboard when it comes to lighting. I like the T5 HO's but dont know if there are no Halides how will clams and other big light requirement type coral/inverts do. If I do just MH I dont think I will get the colors I want, and if I do the combo the price gets ridiculous.

So there is my bio/wants and needs/looks/opinion and everything but some pictures. The reason for no pictures is because it is currently in the garage, getting a split/dual 70g sump put together, sitting on some 4x6's and not looking all that good. Well the stand looks ok cause we already sanded it down painted it and installed a couple of door handles on there.....

ANYWHO...

HELP!

Thanks man...yeah I have to compete for garage space with all the kids toys...think I might put the toys in the barn and free up some space!
 
honestly, now LEDs can do the exact same thing as MH given you buy/build the right fixture (I would build it). that includes getting the right color.

either you spend a ton up front to save more over the course of 10 years, or you spend less up front and buy new bulbs every 12 months and pay triple the energy costs.

i know what i would do...
 
I will be getting Prestige Leds, Shoot Gus a call, for the price and the money and also having a local guy that can guarantee those lights, you can't beat it. Leds will pay for themselves after you have to buy 200 dlls worth of bulbs every year.
