Bicolor or midas blenny advice

I did a search on the forum and did not see any info on this so i figured i would start a thread.

I am looking to add either a midas blenny or bicolor blenny to finish my stocklist.

I have two small clowns, a small firefish and a tiny mandarin goby in my 28 gal nano reef.

I did my research and see that the midas may nip at my clowns. I also see that the bicolor blenny may nip at my corals, which is not cool either.

Anybody have any experience with them that can shed some light on this for me?

Oh yea, I also have a hood so no worries about either jumping. I have some caves and empty rockwork for both but i can add a barnicle or something if needed too.

My bi-color does occasionally nip at SPS, usually just the base of acro colonies. It's never frequent enough to do any noticeable damage. Otherwise, a good reef member that once acclimated is out and about quite a bit.

Either one of them will be totally fine for your tank. I would go with the bicolor over the midas just based on size. You would have to seriously deprive a bicolor of food for it to go after coral to the point where it is actually eating it. A lot of times they look like they are picking at coral when they are actually just grabbing the algae around the base or in between polyps. In the end, I always go with a tail-spot blenny in every one of my set-ups though. Love those little doods.

I had a Midas before he jumped , I thought he was one of the nicest looking and a real Character

I would go with a midas blenny. I have one in my jbj 28g.. Great personality and model citizen in the tank.. I just made sure though he had some barnacle rock so he had his own "place".

Thanks for all of the feedback guys! I knew i could depend on the community here.

Skull, your comment on size was something i did not think of. I may go for the bicolor because of the smaller footprint.

I will let you guys know what i decide on.

Hey guys, I went with the bicolor blenny. I seen one that I loved. Very vibrant colors. He is in the tank and settled in. I think I am going to get a small barnacle piece to put in the tank so he has his own place like Jep suggested.

Anybody recommend a good one? I have seen them so many times when i didn't need or want one. Now that I need it, can't find them.

I am thinking maybe a two or three holed small one or a cool vase or something that he can stay in, that will also add to the underwater theme of sunken treasure or something. I seen those before too. I should check etsy.

Mine lives in a empty clam shell. I glued the 2 halves and stuck it to a rock, the blenny swimms in through the foot opening in the shell.

Thanks Josh! That is a good idea.

Mine seems to have settled in well yesterday. I seen him swimming around with no issues and he was eating and everything. Seems to have found a nice little cave in my rock. I'll keep an eye on him. I seen some chichlid caves on amazon that had amazing feedback. I may just grab one for him.

I wanted to give everyone an update..... The little guy settled right in. No issues eating or getting along with anybody else. He is actually very active and found a few spots that he likes. Not a shy fish at all.

I am very happy with the little guy.
