catalano's 75rr build

Wow, that will look super sharp with the gloss black. I had a gloss black stand and canopy on my 300 a couple of years ago and I thought that it looked bad ***. Good luck with the build!

yea I love this paint. it works great on wood/metal and really washes up easily without rubbing off the paint. it's kind of a pain to apply due to the few coats you need and how long it takes to dry. but its really worth it

so i finally set up my 75 gal tank and I have a few questions. my last tank had a over flow box and this one is reef ready. the plumbing is piped into the water and its pretty loud compard to my last tank. im getting WAY more bubbles and its making big bubble noises from the air getting pushed down into the water and coming back up. the tank is used and this is how he ran it. Im just wondering if I cut the pipe above the water would that help reduce the sound? but Im also worried about splashing if the pipe is above the water... what way is better to have the pipe in the water or above the water line? thanks

Slice the pipe like this:

(The slices will be under the water line when installed)
This way the water has more than one route to leave the pipe. Also if you have more water trying to "return" than the pipe can handle it will "glug" then "swoosh" in to the sump, It's air locking in the drain pipe. If you have a Durso drain that is not glued in you can raise and lower it to adjust. Another way to stop the noise is to drill a hole in the top of the drain pipe and place air line long enough down in to the pipe to "vent" the air lock in the pipe itself. This will help with noise also

I had a problem with my overflow too. Everytime i changed a filter sock, the bubbles came back up and created a "whistle noise" on the standpipe. I just added another 3" to the drain and ended it with a 45 degree elbow. Not only stopped the whistle, but also made the drain quieter.

new pics. just finished my rock sculpture for the right side thats going in tomorrow. im really happy with how this tank is turning out

I have the same basic tank and I like your rock . I think I currently have to much in mine (tried to go 1lb per gallon) I am anxious to see how it turns out. So far it looks really nice.
