The Photo Of The Month (POTM) Contest is presented as a friendly competition between forum members to submit, display and vote on member photographs which best present our hobby in the forms of artistic quality, clarity, subject matter, color, and other specific qualities or themes. The following rules apply to the contest, and all decisions by the staff are final:
1. One photo per member per contest.
2. Photos must be taken by the submitter. Photos of users tank taken by others are not allowed.
3. Photos can be taken from the users aquarium, other aquariums, public aquariums, natural environments, or whatever subject matter fits the theme best.
3.1. Minor technical adjustments may be made to photos for white balance, brightness (etc.) but photoshopping, major editing and/or adding effects is prohibited and subject to the judgement of the staff.
4. Photos must be successfully posted on the monthly contest thread by the deadline indicated (please contact me or another staff member if you need assistance)
5. Each winning photograph will be used as the home page for ChicagReefs.com facebook page for a period of time. Additional prizes may, at times, be awarded to the voted upon winning photograph.
6. Ties are to be decided by the staff and may be resolved by: A "vote-off" against only the tied photos, a split of the POTM designation, or another method determined by the staff.
7. Contests will be announced as close to the beginning of the month as possible and will be open for entries for a specific amount of time determined in the thread. Every effort will be made to display each winning photo for at least one month.
8. Soliciting votes for an entry by any means is prohibited.
9. Users may vote only once and may vote for their own entry. Voting from/under multiple user names by the same individual is strictly prohibited. Users found to be manipulating the voting by use of any number of techniques may have administrative action taken against them.
10. Winning photos may not be resubmitted to any further POTM contest. Losing photos may be resubmitted as long as they meet the subject requirements of another POTM or contest.
11. All decisions regarding the contest will be made by site staff are final.
12. Contest will run until the end of the month so submit your high quality pics before the end of the month.
13. Within the first week of the following month a poll will be created for voting.
14. The voting will last for one week, and it will be closed down, and the winner will be announced, and their image will be featured on the Facebook page until the next month's contest, and winning image are chosen.
15. While anyone is welcome to participate, to give yourself a chance at winning, a high quality, focused image will be needed. You can submit whatever, but the odds of winning pic of the month are pretty slim (I know there are a few on here with great photography skills)
16. Try to not alter the image in post processing too much because it degrades the image quality. We don't expect to see non-edited images, but just go easy on the color saturation and sharpening. See rule 3.1 above
17. This image will be featured for the entire month, and permanently as well as on our Facebook page.
