Crappy RO system

The first problem I had was it came with a defective flow restrictor. I was producing like a quart of wastewater for every 5 gallons of [what I thought was] pure water... Almost crashed my tank, before I started reading forums. About a year ago now.
Coralife did send me all new filters and membrane when I showed them the problem, and I do appreciate that.
Recently my sumps start leaking though. Haven't messed with them in a couple of months since I changed pre-filters, but this morning I see one leaked a few gallons into the cabinet it's all in. Upon closer inspection the seals look kind of raggedy and cheap. I never over-tightened them either.
I have a nifty setup with a 26gal reservoir and cabinet enclosure built into my window well next to my tank. I have ASO, check valve, and you better believe I have a TDS meter now.

I forgot to mention, the ASO has never worked properly to shut off the system since I installed it. When the float valve in my reservoir turns off flow, the ASO should halt flow to the membrane as well, but it doesn't; wastewater continues to pour out until I notice the reservoir is done filling. Could this be because line pressure is not high enough? I haven't checked but I assume water pressure in the city should be enough. Does anyone think a pump would solve that issue? I may get one anyways because my "50gpd" system has never produced more than about 8 gallons a day...

I know I should never assume but I kind of figured on water pressure being similar all through the city. Has anyone else in Chicago found that they needed a pump to produce RO water effectively?

Depending where you are at, the type of plumbing in your house (corrosion/build up), a booster pump may be needed. I got one and it raises the output significantly.

I know this is an old thread, but it is a common question.

Low pressure should not be the cause of the ASOV not working. You need to get a pressure gauge on your system, regardless. If you're only getting 8 gpd from a 50 gpd system, you've got some issues. If you're still struggling with the system, give us a call when you're in front of it.
