Do you flush?

For those using RODI systems: yes or no? If yes, how long and how often? Noticeable longer life of RO membrane? How long does your membrane last?
 
Flush post-membrane, pre-di canisters at the start of making water, and flush the membranes immediately after making water for about 30 seconds. Membranes are over two years old still with a 98%+ rejection rate and still make close to the 180gpd.
 
I flush the RO membranes before making any water for 30-60 seconds, and then let the RO go to waste until I see the TDS drop. Then I valve it over to the DI canisters. I don't know if it makes a difference if you flush before or after making RO?

I haven't started flushing yet but I have a diy kit. I've also read that flushing isn't necessary and that it's a marketing thing. I've had my RO membrane for a while but I don't know if the rejection rate is still the same.

flushing post membrane, pre-di is defiantly a cost saver. The membrane will creep tds while sitting and slams your DI at first startup. A simple inline T and valve in between the membrane out and DI are all that is needed. Flushing the membrane after making water has less tangible benefits, if any at all.

Yeah, I've been using the same membrane for 1.5 years. I have a spare lying around that i should probably throw in there. I'm not going to buy a flush kit to save a little life in my membranes.
 
I've had my Rodi for 6 years running the same membrane and have never flushed. To be honest I didn't even know it was a thing until very recently. All I know is tds coming out is 0-1 and my filter lives haven't decreased noticeably over the years.

But with that being said I will start doing it only because my flow restrictor is leaking on my BRS RODI unit and the only replacement part they carry is a flow restrictor/flush valve 2 in 1 piece. So since I'll have it I'll probably start doing it.
 
I flush when starting and when done for about 90 seconds...but for no other reason than that's what the instructions say to do with the BRS unit.
 
I do beleave BRS has a video for those who dont use or have a flush kit that is very informative. and yes I use one it helps with life of membrane and di
 
This thread seems to be mixing two different things: flushing the RO membrane, and running the RO permeate to drain on start up - these two things really aren't related. They are done for different purposes.

Flushing is done by temporarily bypassing the flow restrictor on the waste water side of the membrane.
Running the permeate to drain is done on the low pressure side of the membrane.
