Dry rock cycling

Okay so this is my first time cycling a tank with dry rock so bare with me lol.

I finally had filled the tank up yesterday, had both dry rock and live sand put in together. The next day I put in a piece of live rock from my currently running tank as my seed rock with two cups of sand from the same tank into the new tank. I then hooked up my biopellet reactor and threw in two cubes of frozen mysis into the filter sock to get my ammonia started.

Now my question is, when should I expect to see my ammonia levels spike? I'm aiming for at least 2ppm on ammonia and I felt that two cubes of frozen mysis (I didn't have any raw shrimp laying around lol) would've been more than enough. Maybe I'm just being impatient but I kind've expected some sort of ammonia level to show up since yesterday but still nothing. Should I place another cube or maybe a whole piece or two of raw shrimp into the tank?

ALSO! I tested my PH and it's only at 7.8 when the salt I'm using (Aquavitro) states that it's salt is balanced between 8.2 to 8.4? Is this normal as the tank is still pretty much brand new and it'll start rising as it starts to mature? I'm looking to set it up as an SPS dominated tank which is why I'm concerned about the PH lol. I figured it shouldn't really matter right now since it's still cycling but it's just something I want to know.

I also put about 240ml of biopellets since it stated on the ecobak container 30ml for every 10 gallons. Is this too much to initially start with since the bacteria needs to colonize on the pellets and it's better to start off with the maximum amount I have to let it colonize altogether or should I take some out?

I would start with around 30-50% of the recommended and get up to 80%-100% over time. Now if you are just cycling, and don't have ANY livestock in the tank, there is no reason not to just go with 100% off the bat though. You'll want to wait until the pellets are fully colonized and things are totally stable before adding anything though. You don't want to add anything and then have the pellets suddenly strip the water clean.

Yup just cycling at the moment so I decided to throw in nearly the maximum amount since it still has to colonize on the pellets and such. Thanks for your input!
