EcoTech, best customer service ever!

So recently one of my MP10w pumps was very loud and didn't seem to be putting out the flow it should have been. I contacted EcoTech and they helped me troubleshoot that my dry side assembly was the problem.
Then, under their instruction, I used their replacement site to order a new dry side which also came with return postage to send them my broken dry side. The order cost me $100 but would be fully refunded once i sent them my broken parts. The new assembly was a breeze to install and was instantly back to working perfectly!
Using the box they sent me my part in, and the prepaid fexex postage they sent me to use, i packaged up my broken part and sent them on their way last monday at 6pm. The best part is i just got confirmation that I've already been refunded, thats 3-4 days!

so long story short, EcoTech replaced my pump and gave me prepaid postage to send them the broken pump back. This was all with no cost to me, and more importantly I was never without a (working) pump in my tank.

Best service in the industry! Makes all the threads on Reef Central complaining about their pricing all the more comical!

I have a mp10 on a 10Gallon and it is a bit loud. Once i move it to the 37 Gal if it is still loud, I want someone to stop over and tell me if it is louder than it should be. There is apparently a break in period though, so who knows!

If and a big if your pump makes noise out the box after a couple days there is a problem. Break in period is not a huge thing. Just be sure to twist and slide the wet side around slightly while running to be sure it is not misalignment noise. Anything more that a minor electro/mechanical whine from the dry side is a defect.

Be sure you are setting the appropriate setback by removing the dry side spacer and installing per your glass thickness.

they did, i put in the spacer- i dont think i will need it with the 37Gallon, so after that point i will worry about it.

Pin spacer is a rubber boot on the dry side, you slip it off and based on how thick your glass is, you put the boot back on to align to that thickness. In addition to this you also get a rubber disc that sticks to the glass which acts like a gasket for the dry side. I'm assuming you only have that "gasket" piece with a mp10? Are there different gasket thicknesses? You may need a thicker one. 10g tanks are reallllly thin glass and you still may not be getting the correct gap between your motor and propellor magnets.

Snap, i thought it was a standard size - they include the spacer, and say the vortech is good for 2 Gallon - 50 gallon. perhaps i can get another spacer! - i'll call them, they probably know.

I see, so rather than pins the mp10 just uses the rubber gasket to adjust for thickness?

The team at EcoTech is fantastic. I have only had a couple issues with some items during warrenty, and their services has always been top notch. I indroduced myself at MACNA, and they knew who I was and we had about an hour long conversation and they gave me tons of free stuff... haha :)

The ONLY reason not to use the rubber gasket on the MP10 is if your glass is too thick for it to hold. It quiets the pump down exponentially and unlike the pin spacer on the MP40/60 does not really assist with the magnetic balancing portion of the pump.

I have owned 10/20/40s.

I don't think anyone is saying to not use the gasket, on the contrary, I think the discussion is leading to the issue being the gasket is not thick enough for a standard 10g glass tank.

It is. Also thick enough for a 5.5g. Some even use them on the 3g jbj picotope.

99.999999% of vortech noise issues are related to misalignment or people thinking they are supposed to be silent.

Most likely the noise is normal vortech noise.

I was a bit surprised at the "whine" my MP40s make when on full. I wasn't expecting it, but believe it is normal.

Usually when mine chatter, usually from being bumped, I turn them off, disconnect the wet side and reattach it. Turning it back on then resolves the issue.
