Ecotech MP10

So i have a 29g bio cube and was looking at different ways to add flow to it, i have a heard mixed reviews on the MP10, just wondering thoughts on it, i know the price is a little steep and there are other ways to provide flow, but just trying to cover all avenues on this. So just wondering the thoughts on the MP10 based on current users of the unit.

Thanks

I have an MP10 and love it. Creates great flow that is adjustable. Personally the only powerheads I use anymore or either tunzes, ectotech's or maxi-jets. Every other type I have used I have not been happy with.

One MP10 in a bc29 will provide all the flow you'll ever need in that tank. Your corals will also appreciate the wider more gentle flow pattern the pump creates. And having multiple random flow programs and speed control make it easy to dial in flow that your entire tank can enjoy. If price is no object, I say go for it.

They have a brushless dc motor mounted outside the tank, there is a minor electrical whine produced, nothing serious. They won't be silent like a koralia nano mounted inside the tank.

Depends on how much you pay attention to them.

The noise it makes is very tolerable, but it can be annoying if there's nothing else making noise to mask the mp10.

Personally, I love it.

I've got a pair of 40's on my tank, a few feet from our couch in the living room. I can't even hear em, she can't stand em... It must be a guy thing being able to tune out a high pitched whine, oh and being able to ignore the noise the pumps make as well... ;-)

that is the only complaint that i have heard is they are noisy, so because this will be in a room that i am in all the time i just didnt want to hear it constantly if that was the issue but seems that i will be able to tune that annoying sound out....lol

thanks for the info, and how do you like the dimmable ATI fixture?

It's sick. Dawn from 6-10am I have one actinic and one blue+ fade from 1% to 100% brightness, then from 11:30 to 12 noon my main lights slowly come up to 68% while the early rise fades back down to 68%, then from 7 to 7:30 pm the daylight fades off and early rise goes back to 100%. Then from 9 to 10 pm the early rise fades back out from 100% to off. The light cycle just feels so natural in the tank. The only thing missing is a little shimmer, but the color in the tank more than makes up for it.

ya i have seen a few videos on them and they look awesome, i would have gone that way if i would have kept a bigger tank but going to the bio cube not really worth it so i am trying my hand at LEDs, that is the only thing that has kept me from T5's was the shimmer that is why i always went MH, but now getting back in the swing of things i went with a biocube and wanted to do some LPS but that T system you have looked great from what i can see,

that is what seems to be the good word is they are worth what they do even if they have a little noise, think its time to see if i can find a used one first

I have two in my 29 and they are barely audable, even with the tv off. It's a very ambient noise that blends in with the slight gurlge of my overflow and sump. To hear it, you'd have to pay close attention to it and focus.

I have an MP10 on my 28nc and I would never go back to the korilina nano it replaced. The noise is the only thing people can find to complain about and it is nearly silent. No tank heat, no cord in the water. Easy to clean/maintain. Variable pattern and something to fiddle with. Go on ebay and offer a seller a haggle for 150 and keep counter offering to 200. You will get it for that (Don't let anyone tell you the waranty will be void if you don't pay full retail). Take a look at the videos on my tank build. There is at least one with the camera right next to the dryside of the MP10. You can be the judge on its' "noise" I would imagine your overflow is already louder. Also, when you decide to get a bigger tank (we both will with these I am sure) the MP10 can still be useful. Besides, people are mesmerized by the power through glass so it increases the cool factor by about 15% on that alone. If you are disappointed, you will be able to sell it for what you paid anyway.

Herbieace, thanks for the info i will have to try that out, since i am only running one i don't need the wireless function correct?

Correct, and you can upgrade that later as well. Good luck. The haggling thing on ebay was new for me, but it worked like clockwork. I'll see if I can find the seller's name since he was big on there.

Nope, no need for wireless now, but keep in mind the rf antenna costs about half as much bought as an mp10wes, as it will cost to buy and add later. Having the rf antenna also adds resale value, and you are future proofed for when you upgrade. You are already spending a bunch pf money on it, the few more dollars now are worth it IMO.

+1 definitely a good point.
