Float Switch wire too short!

I'm about to hook up a couple float switches to my breakout box on the apex and the float switch wires are too short. Just curious to what everyone else does to remedy this problem. I currently have a float switch spliced into a extension cord for my ATO. I know its not the proper way but it has worked. Thats one of the reason's I purchased the controller. I was thinking about just buying some low voltage wire and putting either crimp on connectors or solder connectors to give me the length I require. I'm sure many people run into to this problem because these cheap floats come with only around 8" of wire. Any suggestion would be appreciated. Thanks

Low voltage wire is fine, I have done this already on my set up. I stripped both wires and soldered them together, then I use liquid electrical tape thats in a can and you paint it over the new soldered ends and let dry. i like the liquid tape because it seals the wires from water.

Thanks for the reply. I will be done that but I have some heat shrink laying around that I'm going to use
