For those with LED fixtures

Do any of you have fixtures where the bulbs do not have to be soldered in when replacing, or are they all like that? I'm going back and forth about upgrading to LED before I have to replace my T-5 bulbs. Even though I know how to solder, (I do stained glass), I'm not sure I want to be bothered, down the line, with soldering 110 bulbs.

Also where do you even get the LEDs? and about how much are they?

I'm just trying to figure out the real savings.

Thanks,

Probably the factory fixtures. I would rather tackle the soldering in of 110 LEDs then building the entire unit. At least I know what I'm doing with a soldering iron.

I'm still thinking of going in on the group buy for the chinese LEDs, but just want to check if there are other options that don't need the technical maintenance. If they last five years, though, maybe LEDs will be as cheap as a shop light by that time, and I can just toss them out and replace them with new ones.

OK I see. I believe Kratos bought a "factory" fixture and changed out some LEDs for more spectrum. Maybe he will see this thread or you could PM him and see if it was a difficult thing to do. Mine are all DIY so for "factory" built fixtures Im out of the loop.

Here I am lol

I had the company swap out the colors that I wanted so they did it for me. They do have a 3 year warranty in case anything happens to the fixture. The ones we are ordering now, they are different from the ones I ordered before and are supposed to be a step or 2 above. Unfortunately, I think all the factory leds require soldering. The fixtures that I am ordering are going to have bridgelux leds and you can get them from rapidled I think or aquastyleonline. I am actually trying to find out if they offer crees for not too much of a raise in the price per fixture. They said they would send a few extras per fixture per fixture in case you wanted to swap out and do your own coloring and experimenting.

I think throwing them out after 5 years and buying new ones would be more expensive over replacing the leds. I was going to go with t5s on my 125 too but I really don't want to pay all that money swapping out bulbs every 10 months.

I just installed the solderless kit from rapidled. Not much to it if you are into DIY. Rapidled staff has been very helpful and there are a lot of tutorials online. In regards to replacing them in 5-10 years, I imagine either LEDs will improve or some other lighting will come out and chances are it will be easier to just upgrade. Just my thoughts.

Have you considered the Par38 bulbs for LED lights?

Thanks, I took a look at them, but they won't work for me. My problem is I have limited space because whatever I buy will be going into an 8" high canopy, and those are over 5" long without the receptacle to screw them into. But those do look nice.
