Any lover of giant clams (Tridacna spp.) should be familiar with Gerald Heslinga of Indo Pacific Sea Farms; a pioneer in the field of Tridacna aquaculture, we owe many of our clams to breakthroughs Heslinga and his counterparts made in the past 40 years.

Heslinga’s TEDx talk really focuses on the overarching reason why we farm giant claims in what he describes as a clean, sustainable and responsible. HINT - It has nothing to do with the reef aquarium trade.

Don’t miss this fantastic introduction to giant clam aquaculture and how it came about.

Great info, I have been reading Daniel knop's book "Giant Clams" before considering clams

I actually looked into it as a career. Some former and current locals didn't support it as much as in the past. Some areas were not real politically stable.Cost on getting juvenile clam stock also increased, and wasn't very diversified for purchase. There wasn't much Competition .Gerald does have a good e-book,giving some good guidelines. I agree there is a need and demand beyond the aquarium industry, it's just a nice perk for us.There was also a Central Illinois guy, that was active on reefing forums, who went to work for Walt Smith, doing some clam farming in the Fiji area.At least that is the last I knew of.
