Heater Malfunction!

ARGH!!! I just noticed the temp on my tank is ten degrees higher than normal. I usually keep my tank at 75, but I just went to clean it and it felt like bath water. So far, my fish seem to be ok, but some of my corals look sad. I'm not sure how long it's been like this. It was fine on Wednesday, but I didn't pay attention to the tank on Thursday or Friday. I took the heater out and have a replacement on hand. Do you think I should let the temp drop back down to it's normal 75, or should I bring it down a few degrees each day? With all the money and time I have invested, I really need to get me a controller. I hope I didn't realize that too late.:blue:

Sucks. That's how my last tank crashed. Controllers are a big must. Fishes should be fine. If you have SPS, they might be in trouble if temp change happened fast. LPS and others will probably be fine. In the reef, 85 is actually not bad, especially in the summer. The bad thing is if the temp change happened fast.

75 kinda low any ways 78 / 80 is what most people i kniw keep em at. And like nino said if it raised slowly u should recover id just let it come diwn on its own and try to keep it stabile. I dont ket mine fluctuate more then 2 degrees but usually stays within 1 degree

I clicked on this thread expecting there to have been a tank crash, which is usually what happens when a heater malfunctions. You're lucky. Now your next purchase needs to be a controller ;)
