Hi Guys,

OK so I originally planed on going fallow in my DT for a total of 12 weeks after the ich incident I had, which would mean that I would be able to add fish back into my DT mid Nov. I have talked to a few people and everything I've read pretty much said that I would be good at 4 to 6 weeks....

Just looking for other peoples opinion since i'd like to see my guys back in the DT happy and not in the QTs.

I've not had ich for years, but I've been successful with just under 4 weeks. I would have kept them in the qt for longer, but they were going to die from the aggression in the small tank, the copper, and the generally poor water conditions. I was forced to move them back to the DT after 3 1/2 weeks and I haven't had ich for 4 or so years. I did crank the heat up in the DT while fallow. I've read this shortens the ich life cycle? However this would not be an option if you have coral.

I've never had to deal with ich (knock on wood) but everthing I've ever read or heard about the subject referred to an 8 week timeline....
I would think the longer you can go fallow, the better your chances are at not affecting your new fish....

Just to be clear, I'm not advocating a 3 1/2 week fallow period. It is just what I was forced to do and it worked for me. If I had the chance, I would have went 6 weeks.

Thanks for the input guys. I started the process on 08/18 so I believe that this would put me at 8 weeks at the end of this week. I'm guessing all of the water changes between the DT and the 2 QTs are starting to get to me... As well as looking at my fish in such a small tank... Basically bare...

Stick with the 8+ weeks. Well worth the trouble. Don't crank up the heat. It is a rollover from the freshwater world. Has no effect on marine ich. How are you running your QT out of curiosity? Hypo or copper?

Once I removed them from the DT I treated them with copper at .50 for 16 days straight. Since then they are more active and have better color.

8 weeks from 08/18 would be 09/13 if I counted right...while I know it is prolly torture to wait so long, I wouldn't want to see you rush this and wind up right back where you started... :(

I'd also go ahead and prazipro treat it, for internal parasites, just to be safe. I just went through my 8 weeks, well like 3 days shy of 8 weeks. Fish are back in now for 3 weeks and are happy, fat, and no signs of crypto or other baddies. Good luck *fingers crossed* for you.

Thanks Craig, you didn't do the math wrong but you used the wrong month.... hehehe Thanks for the help! That said I need to start looking for fish to replace the two I lost.
