how to do it?

Hi. I have a question.I'd like to check my water if there is some shortage from submerge accessories like heaters, pumps. I have a volt meter. Just bought it. It has 2 probe. I stick both in the water and it reads 0.009. But I don't think that is how it should be done. I think 1 into the water and 2-nd should be grounded, right? What should i use as a ground? Any experience? Thanks.

Another question along this subject, I have a ground probe and heard using that will help if anything does go bad electrical wise but also heard its not a good thing to use. Opinions?

i dont c why it wouldnt be a good idea . all the electrical crap we have in tanks . funny story on how my buddy found out he had short he had hand in tank cleaning wife came home and gave him a kiss and got the kiss of her life lol shocked the crap out of her .

You need a piece of metal that is in some way grounded. If you have some type of hanging kit for your lights that would work. Don't just stick the other probe to a random piece of metal. It's not going to hurt anything but you might not get an accurate reading.

If you have koralias in your tank you might want to unplug them and see if voltage changes. I just sent 2 to hydor and they were leaking voltage. They fixed them and returned them and since then have installed the grounding probe in my sump with no more problems.
