How to glue ballasts in a sump?

I miswrote the title, I meant to write baffles not ballasts :)
What do you guys (sump experts) use to glue baffles into a sump that is reef safe? I'm planning on making my own sump with baffles. I will probably have a glass sump with acrylic baffles.
I'm guessing I will need to glue them to the sides of the sump and then use silicone seal around the baffles.
 
Just use straight 100% silicone and let cure for about a week before wet testing. I just finished a sump yesterday. If you are going to the frag swap, I'm not far up the road, you can swing by and check it out after the swap to give you a good idea how to assemble. Heck, I even have some extra bits left over that will help you with yours.
 
i've done all acrylic as well as glass tank with acrylic baffles and i believe i used GE silicone II. just make sure it is 100% silicone and NOT the one that kills mold/mildew. i also only waited 48 hours for curing, not a week.

also, do it in a well ventilated area, that silicone can mess ya up!

if you want to be overly safe, and overly expensive you can buy the stuff made specifically for aquariums sold at a LFS, but imo that is a waste.
 
Dap 100% silicone 10oz tube and caulk gun at Menards, under $6 and enough to do like 6 sumps!

I say give it a week to fully cure just to be safe that nothing will leech out into your DI, you can wet test after 24-48 based on the instructions on the tube.
 
hey beard, sorry to be shady, but I still have those Hydor flo's. I've been so busy working night shift, I apologize. Let me know next time you head up to MCF and will try to meet you there. I'm just giving them away, practically brand new, you can just have em.
Thanks for the advice. I tried making my own sump before, but only allowed the silicone 24 hrs and it never worked. Now I know to let it cure longer.
 
No prob, I know how busy I've been, figured it was probably the same and you just never got around to shipping them out. So your not going to the frag swap?
