So I made a mistake I programmed my doser wrong by accident. I'm been dosing vinegar for a while now and was just checking on it. We'll some how I program it to dose for a long time n empty out the rest of the vinegar into my tank. At least it was not full. Sadly I was having alk swings n just had figure out how much I needed to keep it stable and now this happened. So I came home from work to a dead Anthias. Lights were still off so didn't really see much else. After a while I notice the water was like a yellow color. Panic mode kick in. I just had started using a new gfo so I figure that was causing it. Turn off my dual bsr reactor. I change my carbon when notice the doser was on. I check it and yes the bottle was empty. So I did a water change. Next day came home and water was white. Look it up and looks like a bacterial bloom. During all this Sps not happy n lost a few. Thoughts of just quitting were there but I said I'm not quitting. So I was testing daily and only big thing is my alk Is super high now. Big alk swing! Yes not good for Sps. So what do I do now? Any advice is much appreciated! As I am really frustrated. Thanks to Jaime the reefer which has been helping me.
125rr with maybe a 25g sump.
Before accident results were
Alk 158 hanna
Cal 400 seachem
Ph 8.25 probe reef keeper.
Phosphate 0.05 hanna
Nitrates .10 salifert
Mag 1250 seachem
Now Salinity 1.026
Alk 244
Phosphate 0.11
Cal 500
Mag1250
Nitrate 5 low range
Ph 8.16
Temp 79
I dose acro power about 1 ml daily. Running only brs carbon now. Stop vinegar for now. It's mix reef more Sps. We'll not sure anymore. Any advice? Thanks in advance! Yes still learning.

Big water change, skim super wet, you can try some baking soda to neutralize Alk but hopefully the water change will take care of it.

Ted after the water change alk went up for some reason. I tested fresh sw and it's 185. Was scare it might go up again.

Riv, if you used Reef Crystal and measure the fresh mix is high (11) then just change a little water if the fresh mix is 8.5 (I measure mine only 8.5 of the RC salt) then change more water to balance the ALK in the tank. Otherwise you may change different salt. But I recommended don't change a lot of water in one time, it will shock the system. You may change little be little everyday till it's good.

What he said ^^

Yes I use reef crystal. It tested high for me. Making more now and will tested again. Maybe bad batch. So if it's high I will do small WC every day. Thanks Mai n ted for your help!

If I were to change salt how would I do it safely? Any suggestions? On my last bag of reef crystal now.

Is it safe to start vinegar again?

Personally I would wait until you are sure the bacteria bloom has passed and your skimmer/water changes have pulled most of it out. It probably lowered the oxygen content of the water by a pretty substantial amount (leading to the fish death).
