JBJ NC 28g 89w LED ADV is too d#$% bright

The stock LEDs on the NC28 are just too bright and white. I know retro kits are available, but my soldering skills are not worth a $200 risk for a full re-do. Is it possible to just pull a few of the individual diodes and change them out with cooler colors? I'm pretty sure dimmable would require a whole new set up. I am planning a new tank in the next year, but in the mean time I'd like to cool off this whiteness. Any thoughts?

If its merely a remove and replace job on the actual diodes and nothing else, there are several of us on the boards that should be able to help you. I did the full spectrum retrofit on my old Apollo led fixture, was very easy in relation to some other DIY electrical stuff I've done. Otherwise, going Dimmable might be as easy as swapping out the stock drivers, to as complicated as a 100% gut and replace job.

How can I tell which is viable? I'm not sure what type to get as a drop in replacement. I'd love to just add some blue, purple and red in place of a few of the 25 whites but it that as simple as it sounds? I've soldered enough to build nitro rc cars, but that is all simple DC stuff (and complete failure wasn't a complete catastrophe). Should I just order some LEDs and start clipping wire?
