LED's from the Evergrow group orders....timer questions

So I got in on the Kratos LED group buy. I love the light, but have some questions?

1. I set the fixture to custom mode. This was setup from factory and the light cycle begins at 7am and runs until 12am. It goes to 100% both channels for like 4-5 hours. The rest is the slow ramp up and moonlight modes. Did anyone change this? My corals are fine with the light intensity, but looking for other tables for cycles. If so what's your cycle? I.e., 7am channel 1 - 3%, 2 - 0%, 8am channel 1 - 8%, 2 - 1%

Also optics, mine have the 90 optics. Do I even need optics? I've got a 27g cube. 20" deep by 20" wide and 18" deep. The light is about 9" above the waterline.

Im surprised you are following that. The light is too atrong at100%. You need to slowy ramp it up over a few weeks or you will probably see your corals bleaching. I would change it so your max would just be 40-50% for the blues and even lower for the whites as the whites are usually the cause of bleaching

Well I've been running that cycle since installing it last month. Corals look fine surprisingly. Of course I've got everything at the bottom of the tank.

Im trying this thing out I keep reading on R2R about doing 2 shorter light cycles a day, instead of one long cycle. Supposed to make corals grow faster and zoas multiply faster. I just started it. Will see how it goes. My max right now is 55% blues and 35% whites. Darn things get so bright, and I have the 120 optics.

Yea, everything looks good to me. Not seeing any growths yet, but all look happy. Been about 6 weeks or so under LED's.

Cola - can you keep us posted on that cycle? Interesting

I'll try. The theory behind is that the zoox in the corals are supposed to only absorb and use a limited amount of light during the day and then the rest of the light is useless. If you let the lights turn off for a few hours in between the long light cycle, you allow the corals to process the lights they absorb ( like nightime ). Then you turn the lights on again so they can absorb more.
The thing is there are no formal research on this. I dont know the optimum length of each light cycle and optimum length of off time for the lights.

So is your tank dark for a few hours when you are home? I like my lights to come on when I get home and go off when I go to bed so I can enjoy my tank from sun up to sun down.

I have it on moonlight mode for about 3 hours in between the 2 light cycles. My tank is in the basement, so I can enjoy the moonlights during the day.
