Best way to help get rid of leftover food particles?

Question 1) Will peppermint shrimp eat leftover food particles on sand bed?(i don't mean fresh food, i mean leftover particles that were on my sand bed for a week).

Question 2) Will a goby eat old food from the sand bed and clean it gone?

How to get rid of leftover food particles without removing my sand?

1. Yes they will..
2. Depends on what kind of goby u have.. Like a sand shifting goby will and signal goby.

Get a good clean up crew like hermit nassarious snails, sand shifting starfish, serpent starfish

Sand sifting star has done wonders for me on general detritus work

Get a CUC (clean up crew) from Reefcleaners.org; they should have a package designed for the whatever size tank you have. And they always throw in extras.

If all else fails siphon out the detritus you will likely get some sand in the mix but it won't effect anything. Sand beds can always be replace slowly for what you lose.

You can pinch the hose you are using to syphon so that the flow is slowed down. the sand will come up the tube and shake lose the detritus then fall back into your sb when you restrict the flow. Do NOT do this if you have a deep sand bed. I usued to "vacuum" my sb regularly. I haven't done it over a year now and just let the cuc do it's job. Nassarius snails are great becasue they love detritus and all things dead, plus they burrow under the sb and shoot out when they smell food. they'll keep the sb churned and its kinda cool to watch. sand sifter stars IME do an excellent job and won't cloud your water like a goby spitting sand. However, I've heard that sand sifting stars can decimate your pod population by eating the larvae (or something like that) and can actually starve. I had one for about 2 years in my tank before it got too big.
