Metal Halide Height

Hey, I have a 29 gallon tank standard dimensions with a 250 watt metal halide light sitting 20 inches above the water surface.

Is this too high or should I move it closer to the water surface??

I have a 210 lights about ten inches above.water if that helps all clams are in sand doing good 400 watts so.this post means nothing my.bad

My 250 is about 6-8" from the water surface.

Oh, I have only a 29 gallon, and its about 21 inches higher than surface.

What do you think about that?

I think that it is too high. I would lower it to 8"-10". I'm pretty sure that you're getting a lot of light spill at that height.

i have a 250 watt halide 8 inches from the water on a 40 breeder and its been great

On my 24g nano I had a 150w halide 2" from the surface.
