Looking at adding moonlights to my 75gal reef. Currently have 2 48" Actinic VHOs for sunrise/sunset and then will have 2 250w MHs as the main lights. I wanted something else to still view the tank when the MH/VHOs are off. Everything will be controlled by a RKE so i can set timers through the controller.

Not looking for anything over expensive, but something that still provides nice viewing. I've seen some in Blues and some in Whites ... which do most recommend/like? Its a standard 75gal and info/links (maybe even some personal tank photos) would be great :)

I saw/was thinking about those... "Requires a ReefKeeper MLC or ALC to operate" does that unit come with the RKE? wasnt sure, thats why i was thinking of getting different 'plug & play' ones and just running a timer. With 2 pc4s, hopefully im good on plugs :)
 
What lights are you using? If you get the ALC, you can ramp up and down your lights via the controller too.
 
I've got what I think is a pretty basic "automated" setup and max out a regular power strip, 2 pc4's and 2 outlets on a 3rd pc4.

Im using 2 250w MHs that each have their own ballast and then the 2 48" VHOs are on another ballast. the MHs ballasts have timers built in (ones kind of shot) but i want them through the RKE so that if the tank overheats they can automatically be shut off. I dont think any of my lights (MHs or VHOs) can really be controlled intensity-wise, correct? using the ALC would be nice that its not more plugs and then if i ever go to LEDs can control them...

How many pods do you think would be needed on a 75g to get good coverage?

Hmm... Yeah im betting that mine get used up pretty quickly.....
 
whites is more natural, but blues give that glow. depends on what your tryign to do. induce spawning? or just get a few more mins of glow time everyday?
