OUCH is right had a lookdown with a similar OUCHIE and I'm guessing the saltwater made it worse and made it only 2 days after noticing
BUMMER :-)

Fish should be fine if it is still eating/swimming normally. That is a sign of just an external injury. Keep pristine water quality and feed heavy. I've seen/had plenty of fish with superficial injuries like that, never had a problem if they were still eating/swimming.

Thanks Skull, he's had this now for about 4-5 days, and YES he's eating plenty and swimming fine ( GULP so far )
I though to keep an eye on him and MAYBE set up a quarantine tank for just in case... though i don't really wanna spend the DOE for that right now
house RE taxes due in 2 weeks DANGIT

I wouldn't mess with it unless you see redness or fungus. Usually the only thing that happens with injuries like this is a secondary fungal infection. If you do see redness/fungus I'd just pull him and do a 1hr Paraguard dip in a 5g bucket. Most of the time, pulling the fish for a superficial injury to QT does more harm than good due to stress.

I had a regal with same injury it died also with full belly id guess secondary infection. Knda funny skull tells someone to treat a healthy looking fish but then tells u leave a expensive injured fish be . Id treat with a antiboitic to prevent a secondary infection thats just me

There is a difference between dipping/treating a fish in its home tank and dipping/treating a fish that just came in from an LFS or distributor (stress of transport, difference in tank conditions, difference in diet, etc.). Secondary infections aren't generally invisible like parasites. You will generally see redness, swelling, fungus, etc; just like a human. In fact the vast majority of flare ups requring medical attention in this hobby are stress related which weakens the immune system. If you can't see anything wrong other than a superficial wound, I personally wouldn't treat it. I have never once lost a fish due to secondary infection of a superficial wound that was eating and had no other visible distress signs. Many ways to skin a cat though.
