Ph/Alk monitor

Hello all, I have an Apex Jr that I only use for temperature control, got tired of the lousy controllers that burn out or blow fuses. I was wondering if it be worth the investment to add on the module that will monitor my Ph. Will high Ph also mean my alkalinity is high? I had a situation a few weeks ago with my alkalinity, it was low (7.6), I do dose part A and part B but one of the dosers got clogged, so I turned off the dosers and put in 2 teaspoons of seachem marine buffer powder for 4 days and tested for Alk only to discover that it shot up to 14.6. So my question is if I had a Ph probe hooked up to the Apex would I have been able to discover the rise sooner? My system is a well stocked 90g reef.

Thanks
David

APEX is a great controller!!! Never owned one but will someday..lol!! RKL for life

David, with you dosing manually is always in small amounts and test after a few hours.. Not sure if 2 teaspoons was the correct amount as I never used this product.. But if you had a PH probe, yes you can set it to stop dosing ALK until levels are low. But won't work if your dosing manually as it will be pointless and will have to be monitored by you.

Example with my RKL: I'm dosing Kalk and we all have heard of the stories of crashing systems when overdosed.. My alarm will shut off the doser if PH reaches 8.4 and turn back on once it's low again. This is why I have a second ATO/doser with just RO/DI

My experience is that the ph rise is only temporary when dosing. So if your alk was high it wouldn't reflect in your ph. But of you're currently dosing say by accident then the ph would show that temporary rise. I hope that made sense..
