Pincushion urchin

Just moved my pincushion urchin over to a new tank and now it's been dropping the shells that it was carrying and shedding its pins across the tank. It's still moving but I'm wondering if it's dying or if the pins will grow back. Anyone have experience on this?

Check your tank parameters and make sure nothing is drastically different. Usually high nitrates will cause them to start dropping pins.

Did your acclimate it to the new tank, or just transfer it over?

I transferred a good amount of water when I switched the tank

He seems to be doing good. Climbing rocks and moving around today

I noticed my tuxedo urchin missing spines one day, the next day a little more and then the next day almost all of them were gone. Luckily I just so happen to be gazing one moment and saw both of my Halloween hermits feasting on the poor thing. I gave the hermits to my brother and all the pins grew back within a few weeks
