piranha canister question

My son set up a 120 (freshwater ....oops). But I was wondering what the general consensus is on canisters. Are the cheapos like SunSun useable if not who's got the best bang for the buck. Sorry for a little off topic but I'm a saltwater guy and I just do t know canisters . thanks in advance.

P.s. I'll get him hooked on reef when he gets a little older!

I only use Eheim canisters. Have some running that are 40 years old.... Tip--Underwaterworldz in Bensenville, has an entire room full of used ones they'll sell you!

For a 120g though, I run a large Eheim canister & 2-3 Aquaclear 500s. You're gonna need mechanical filtration that you can clean out easily, weekly.
