Really Bad Day On the Reef!

Got any wrasse to eat it? If it hasn't taken over yet, it's not the end of the world. You can even use flatworm exit now before the population explodes.

I don't have any wrasses. It's an aefw and I don't believe flatworm exit works for these. I don't think there is an in-tank treatment. All of my acros are encrusted onto rock. I blew at least 20 of these of a few different acros tonight. My triggers eat the ones I blow off.

I actually ran flatworm exit about two months ago because I had acole flatworms. It wiped them out, but if I had these aefw back the , it didn't do anything to them obviously.

Sorry to see this with all the work you put into your tank Get some wrasses asap that is a slow but natural way to try to eliminate them Remember not to feed your tank heavy so the wrasses do there thing

I really haven't bought coral for a long time (since the swap in June). I bought one piece about a month ago, but I was already suspecting something may be up at that time. It's funny because most of my sps still looks really good.

So, no, I have no idea where they came from.

IME - Pipefish do a great job at keeping things tidy in tanks they will def take care of you're flatworm problem if you are interested in Pipefish also if you can get the ones that are not encrusted and get a good dip on them

Sorry to hear ur troubles.
But Look for a cosmetus wrasse. I heard good things about them eating aefw. I also ready that by blowing them off ur sps u get a better chance of them not being able to find the acro's and starving. Plus if ur triggers r eating them then that helps also. But yes I would get 2-3 wrasses
Cosmetus
Coris
Melanrus ( I think that's how u spell it)

Unfortunately I think my triggers would kill a pipefish. And unfortunately, almost all of my sps is encrusted on rock. I'll be turkey basting until I can get some wrasses through QT.

If they are reef safe triggers and are eating well they will leave him alone.

It'd take some time for me to find the articles again, but how big are your colonies and how attached to the base rock? At least one person reported to success with removing and dipping every colony in the tank in bayer. Seems like it took a few rounds and looking for eggs after each dip.

I am so sorry to here this. I would grab a few of them and put them in a container and test the results with flatworm exit to be sure. Wrasses are always good to have in the tank as they could keep pest potentially under control and never getting to the problem stage. They are a must IMO.

This is the only method I've read about that works. However, I have rock bigger than footballs that have multiple colonies growing in them. I may have to cut off the colonies and chip any remaining base off on the rock. Then dip whatever is left of the colonies using bayer multiple times.

Why don't you get a brute trash can to use for dipping the big rocks. Also, If you decide you want to QT the acros on the rock I have a 120g tank in the garage that would be more than big enough for your all of your rock. Just have to pick it up.
