Reef Dynamics protein skimmer

I'm currently using an INS80 rated for 250g but my phosphates are high. Is this a good PS? Sould I look at a new one?

Also..the chato algae in my refuge is not growing any more..any suggestions to get that going again?

I ordered a carbon/GFO reactor for my 150..hoping that will help phosphates. I'm running a sterilizer..will I need that w/new GFO?

Looks like I may answer my own question..based on their website my protein skimmer is just way too small!! It's ideal for +\- 80 gal tanks.

An underrated skimmer would have to be emptied more often, but phosphates can be caused by a number of things: over-feeding, high tds in your water, leaching from your lr...a phos specific media can definitely help, but find the source to better nip it in the bud.

skimmer has little to do with and sterilizer has nothing to do with phos. either nip it at the source which is almost always overfeeding, and or run gfo. carbon dosing is another option, but if you are asking these kinds of questions i would stay away from it for awhile.

Give us a little more specifics like how many fish, feeding schedule, etc. You protein skimmer is undersized for 150 for sure.

If I give the number of fish you guys are going to bust me up… It happens every time..
But it is three frozen cubes of food the Misys, brine, and then seaweed.. And then I hand feed my ghost eel. But, I feed them about once a day to every other day at around 430 5 o'clock.

I have a toadstool, wall hammer, tracafilia, acanth, leather finger, Duncan, pipe organ, lps, and rose tips. But I've had several corals die out and just won't open.

The trace never opens, only at night., and barely at that.

Well, you know than that you're way overstocked if you say that. In that case you need properly sized skimmer that will be able to handle all waste. Yours is way too small. Also GFO in reactor will help a lot. Sterilizer does not help with PO4 but keeps algae spores and parasites in check.

for overstocking like that you might have better luck running an algea turf scrubber, the upflow type with leds are pretty economical to build.

Ok Diablo is in an running..no skimmate yet..so I'm hoping it'll start pulling some soon. Also, I set up the GFO/Carbon filter from BRS...I'm expecting great things here!!
What should my expectation be for this thing to turn around? I did 2 cups of GFO and 2 cups of carbon.
