We received a super nice fish shipment today which included Black Tang, Dwarf Golden Moray Eels, Heniochus diphreutes, Bartlett Anthias, Supermale Rhomboid Wrasse, Red Leaf fish, Bonded Flame Wrasse Pair, etc.
However, I thought I would take the time to talk about some of the boutique Flame Angels that arrived today.
Red Striped Flame Angelfish - This brilliantly red fish has dark red stripes instead of the usual dark black stripes. There is also a significantly less blue edging on the anal fins. They are sometimes referred to as "solar flare" angelfish. This fish is from Xmas Island.
True Hawaiian Angelfish - It is a common misconception that the majority of flame angels come from Hawaii. The fact is that they come from Xmas Island. True Hawaiian Angels are a fiery red color and have significantly less orange if any at all.
Block Flame Angelfish - This unique flame angel comes from Micronesia region but not Marshall Island. This variety has the orange hues like the Xmas Island variety does but boasts significantly thicker black stripes!
We do also have a dozen or so Xmas Island flames in stock as well.
I'm on my way to the eye doctor, but hopefully we can gets some pictures in the next couple days.
When it comes down to figuring out the origin of an angel it all comes down to trusting your source. Any region can contain morphs that look like the others.
