Ro / DI recomendations

I picked up the BRS 5 stage. I love it. Just make sure your line pressure is within the recommended ranges for their units. If not, you would also need to pick up a booster pump to get your water pressure up.

BRS 5 stage plus unit its regularly $199.99 get it on a group buy and its $180. It comes with every connection type out there pressure gauge dual inline tds meter auto shut off valve flush valve it works perfect for me but if you do infact have a lot of chloramines in your supply water I know they have a system specifically for you.

Build ur own lol. i got a 6 stage for dirt cheap on craigslist and jsut added to it. I picked up a pressure gauge, auto shut off, dual tds, Bypass and it's still cheaper then buying a new fancy one + u get all the benefits of the extra shat that the expensive ones have.

I also just hooked mine up w/ a T and a valve to allow me to get just RO water for my coffee machine. Never have to buy bottled water again.

I have this one as well, and it works great. I've had to add on to it after upgrading to a larger tank, (a second DI filter, booster pump and went from 75G per day to 150G per day) and found it very easy and straightforward to do.

BRS 5 stage plus FTW. They are all the same tech though. you just need to find a cost/value ratio that you are comfortable with. Don't have your DI sideways and make sure it's got at least a couple of pre-filters a RO and a DI can (I run two in parallel to save on resin) and you're all set. BRS is a great choice just because they are 100% reefer oriented and they have everything you need in one place (and a great sponsor with a regular group buy every month). Menards and HD actually carry most of this stuff too, but you want to make sure you are getting down to actual 0 tds if you are keeping SPS. There are lots of cheap or "portable" products that are basically just britta filters. Let us know what you decide.

the best route is the brs with the drinking water option, why should your fish be the only one enjoying RO water.

Both of my di canisters are sideways. What's wrong with that lol

My impression (I think from a Mark Callahan article ((and physics)) is that it's inneficient. If the cans are horizontal water finds a path of least resistance and uses up all of the DI in that path. the rest of it goes unused. If you position it vertically it constantly repositions the resin by weight so you can use all of it before replacing it. I can see it in my colorchanging as it organizes all of the colors in bands vertically.

Hmm, my water is always filled to the top on my canisters and they seem to change evenly

interesting; my cans are barely full at all and you can see the trickle in on both. I'd bet if you stirred up the resin when you change it you will see different patterns inside the resin at the top vs. the bottom of the resin (the water probably moves along the tube at the same pace all around). If you're not burning through resin faster than you think you should it's probably not a problem, but my resin is lasting more than twice as long since I added the second can and I had a buddy with horizontal cans that has really seen an improvement since repositioning them.

I'll keep am eye. Actually after replacing my membrane and filters it seems like my di last forever lol.and i make a lot of water.

Same here. My duals are lasting a year and a half before getting 1 on TDS. I just repacked them with non color changing resin so we'll see how much longer these run.

Well I ended up with the BRS 4 stage with pressure gauge and TDS meter. First day I used it TDS meter read 002 in 000 out last 2 times I used. 000 in 000 out. Could my Geneva water be that good. I am going to have to check the meter. I posted a link to our water quality report at the beginning of this thread.

The in reading is after the prefilters and ro membrane but before the di stage.
