Ok so right now I just have a few fish in my tank with just instant ocean saltwater. I want to start adding coral soon should I start mixing in reef crystals water when I do my water changes. Is that OK for my fish since I won't have any corals yet or is there another way I should go about it

I wouldnt jump straihht to reef crystals lot of corals do fine in instant ocean . Test your calcium when the i/o vant keep up with the demand then change over . I did water changes with my reef crystals while i was redoing tank and with no corals my calcium went through the roof 620 been over a week with bunch of corals now and only dropped to 580 . Its pretty much same salt with just extra calcium and with some extra trace elements . So depending on what corlas u going with will decide how soon u need to switch over

According to the manufacturer, IO has low calcium and magnesium. Still I agree with your comment. Get a test kit before making any changes whatsoever. One for Calcium and Alkalinity to start. Alkalinity will change quicker than the Calcium, so test more often. If they're low then you can decide whether to switch to Reef Crystals or just start doing a little dosing. With what the manufacturer said about the Mg levels, I'd get that test kit too.

It does but not all corals use calcium and i doubt he gonna just dump a bunch of stoneys in. Even if he does it be best like u said test . He can dose calcium when he needs then make the switch . Im just going by my revent experience. And not sure what corals hes even thinking of
