SCA-302 Skimmer, Any Good?

Are these protein skimmers any good?

I currently have a Reef Octopus NWB-110 and I am not really impressed by it. Even though the water level stays constant, it always either drops the bubbles or overflows.

I've heard a lot of good things about the SCA-302 skimmers, especially for the price. Was just wondering if anyone had any first hand experience with them.

Best bang for your buck, imo. No problems at all with my Sca.

I've had no problem with these skimmers. Really easy to clean too. They run nice and quiet.

Are there any modifications that are recommended for them? Or are they pretty much good to go out of the box?

There are mods you can do, but it runs great right out of the box, imo.

Only mod that skimmer needs is trimming down the pump output a little bit to get a broader flow of bubbles under the bubble plate and a little more contact time. It is similar to this mod that I posted a long time ago:

Yep, I did that and made a mesh wheel for mine. Have since moved back to using the original inpellar though.

I have been running this skimmer for a year now on my 65 and love it. Easy to tune as well.

Well I decided to make the switch. I ordered an SCA-302 for my tank. Now to sell my Reef Octopus.
