Should I Do a Tusk?

Harliquin Tusk are my favorite fish. I had a small one about five years ago until a big crab caught him and ate his whole back end off. I had another one about a year and a half ago until he went carpet surfing. I want to get another.

The last one I had was about 2-3 inches, pretty small. My triggers showed a little aggression, but they were generally fine. My niger would chase him around during feeding because the tusk was really stealthy at grabbing food and running around with it. The tusk never ate any of my crabs and never touched coral, but at that time, I had minimal coral.

Does anyone have a tusk with a bunch of coral? Will he be OK with my SPS? Thoughts?

If I get the tusk, In 220 gallons, I'd have (all adult sizes):

-Harlequin tusk
-Picasso trigger
-Niger trigger
-Naso tang
-Powder Blue tang
-Lemon peel angel
-Pair of black snowflake clowns
-Emperor angel

I used to have a big tusk in my old 180 SPS tank, with LPS at the bottom. He never bothered corals.
I just don't know about your triggers

Thanks, I'm not really worried about the triggers. I've introduced a small tusk in the past and they were ok. I was more worried about a mature tusk with sps. I guess it's really just a wrasse so it should be fine. I think I'm going to pick one up. I'll also be building a mesh top.

Yes, Aussie only though! I still say go for the pinkface wrasse though. You have the perfect set of personalities in that tank for him.

I assume you say Aussie only simply because of the better coloration? My last two were Indos and I loved them, but the Aussies are definitely prettier. I gotta look into the pink face a little more.

Tusk's won't harm any coral, but if you get the wrong one it could eat all your snails, crabs and shrimp. Some won't go after those things if they're well fed but you never know until you get them in our tank. Last one I had liked eating the crabs but left snails and big shrimp alone. I'm actually thinking about adding one to my new tank which will only be sps.

Also, tusks are extremely timid fish so adding one after all those other aggressive fish might might not bode well for the tusk. try to get the biggest one you can. Advanced Aquatics usually gets regular shipments of nice big aussies.

Hey I was wondering how your triggers are not eating your corals. I thought triggers and corals can't mix. Thought the blueface was the only reef safe trigger. Thanks.

No, they are fine with corals....they don't eat my crabs either. The only issue with the triggers is that they pick up gravel with their mouths and spit it on the corals. They don't burry coral deliberately, more like crop dusting.

I thought they might feed on them like butterflies do.
That's a pretty neat setup, I would have definitely added triggers too.

Been Juggling dwarf angels with my coral.
