Shovelman has been so kind as to let me take care of his peacock mantis while he is away at school. :) Have it about 1/2 filled up, will take the sand out of my DT with a sponge from my sump to cycle the tank. Should be picking up the big girl this weekend!

Picked up the big girl today, nice meeting you John, and thanks again. She did a little quarter lap of her house and dove right in. Ill add some rubble for her to decorate with :)

pretty dark in her tank, and i dont think she would appreciate me flashing her, so these pics are very grainy

Hey tethered! Tank looks better than I ever imagined! I'm sure she will be happy, and that I will be happy too knowing she went to the best home possible.

As you all know, when it comes to saltwater, stomatopods are #1 on my list but because of school, mum's seafood allergies and how fast this big girl goes through a clean up crew (this was my main concern, as my smaller species will be fine on 8 hermits a week, but the big peacock brute easily blew through those), it wasn't in the cards for her to stay at home. nor would I want her to stay knowing what that kind of care would be taken of her at home while I am away.

I didn't have to look any further into re-housing this girl than to talk to tethered, who immediately hatched the plan to set up a tank (basically what this thread is....(ps sorry for the little hijack)). Long story short, tethered set up a very much so appropriately sized tank, and with great speed made it to my door yesterday to pick her up. I cant express how relieved, yet sad I am to see her go, but at the core of it all, she IS in a kick-a$$ tank with abundant food, and with a great owner to take care of her.

So basically what valuable life changing, heart wrenching, eye watering, lesson we learn from this is

A. Tethered and Lunacris are some cool dudes, and were very respectable, and understanding (sorry again about the 15-20min wait... I know some other people would have gotten up, left, and turned a whole legion of chicago reefers against my pm box as if it were Satan on a holy crusade) It was my pleasure meeting you two, and maybe when I reach that 21 year mark, I'll make the trip more of worth to you with a couple of beers or somethin'...

B. I like mantis too much... its like.. people who find babies or puppies cute... but for me its the little beady eyes and death reaping raptoral appendages that I ooh and aaaw over... so hence why I care so much about them and finding them a good home...

Annnnnnyyyywaaaayssss......BACK TO THE THREAD CAPTAIN! FULL PHOTOS AHEAD! FIRE THE COMMENTS! ....pew pew! pew pew pew!

Little Update

She is eating well, I'm not sure if she cleared out all the Nass snails or not, but there are definitely a few hermits in there at all times for her now. Already eaten a clam on the half shell as well. May go and get some more interesting prey this weekend :spy:
