skimmer for 40 gal. mixed reef

Hi. I post that question few months back but didn't get much help. Can I try one more time. I downgraded from 125 to 40 breeder with 20 gal sump. I used this Octopus Skimmer (Super Skimmer XP-1000 SSS ) on my 125 but I think its overkill for my 40.( I used it for a month, then last 3 I run it without skimmer and still all perfect). Im looking for good, quiet, reliable smaller Skimmer. The bio load will be in medium range. I can trade this one or purchase new one. Any suggestion of good one for this tank? Thank you.
 
If you think it too big then put the skimmer on timer. Run it 12 hours a day or less.

I run my only 10 hrs, the nitrate still under 2 and PO4 is under 0.08..I need to bring Nitrate up more, may be close to 5 or 6.

My Phosfate and Nitrate and of course Amonia are 0. Like I said I don't run Skimmer for last 3 months

I have a 40 breeder also with an protein skimmer rated for 200g.. I run it 24/7 and no issues. I think ur skimmer is great. I would just do what Mai suggest run it for only a couple hours a day and see how that goes..
