Looking for a protein skimmer for a 28gal Nano Cube. Looking for recommendations on what would be a good quality hang on back skimmer that fits on the back with little or no mods. Let me know what you all think.

Not too sure about a NC28 but a tunze 9002 fits perfectly in the back of my BC29. Ive heard of people using it or a remora HOB on NC28's. Wiz.

Good luck my friend. I've been trying to get one for a long time. I've limited myself further by adding a reactor so I have that pump in the way and very little clearance behind my tank. I hear the JBJ nano skimmer is a POS and the Tunze 9002 keeps getting thrown out there (you need the one with the loose magnet ((whatever that means))), but I think you have to yank the media basket for that which I want to run as a fuge. I'm following to see if you get better results. I'm glad to know there is at least one other NC28 on here though.

Its actually my wifes but i do most of the dirty work for her.Typical. lol. yeah i dont want to lose the media basket either ive heard cpr bak pak, aero force, remora hob, aquamaxx hob, octopus 1000bh but no detailed descriptions of where and how they hang on the back or what mods need to be done.

Have you just tried running a bag of ChemiPure in a high flow area, along with regular water changes? A lot of people will argue that skimmers are not vital to an all in one system with regular maintenance.

I've heard it can be done without but if I can find one that fits and isn't a pos then I'd rather have one if I have the choice between having one or not.

if you have the space and $$$, get the CPR medium hang-on-back refugium. You can add the tunze 9002 skimmer and add a nice refugium light to grow macro algae etc. That's how I had mine set up a few years back and it ran great. This allows you to still use your media rack without jamming your skimmer in there.

Yeah that's how I feel religious water changes will work but I'd rather have a skimmer given the choice.

+1 I'll go with both anyday. I just want things to do :couch2: That is the pitfall of the small AIO tank I guess, but I really love my choice still! I think I might just buy the JBJ and see how it goes. If it skims anything, then it will be an addition to my current system.
