Looks like you going to have some fun with your new set up, what will you do with livestock when your lr is curing? When you do acid batch you will kill it for sure. Also word of advice, I would not reuse old sand, no matter how many times you clean it, just start with new, you will avoid many problems. Keep posting pictures, can't wait to see what you going to do with it. :)

Swear I replied to this the other day!

The old sand will not be used! Maybe a small cup to see the new sand but I am not sure yet. I had a cyano problem that has been fixed for a while but I'm afraid there will be bubble algae or something in the sand so I probably wont seed the sand.

When I set up the current tank I used live sand and I will not be doing that again either. No pests (that I know of) but still after reading around the forums I'm going to avoid it.

All the coral I keep from the old tank will be dipped before going into the new tank just to start off the new tank on the right path.

I will probably be selling off most of the coral I have and starting from scratch with the new tank, the old tank had really no thought behind it. Just mostly impulse buys.

Update:

Picked up the tank, stand, canopy, rock, light and misc parts last night and this morning.

The tank looks much better then I thought with the crazing. I will have to clean it completely, fill it with water and see how I like it but I think I will be sticking with it.

As for the stand and canopy, it is currently painted white and needs a refresh. I am going to sand it down and repaint it. I know most stands and canopy's are painted white or black but I am thinking of painting it another color. What do you guys think of matching the stand and canopy with the wall?

the wall is like a beige neutral color, here is the best picture I can find to show the color. Hell with the temps lately it feels like christmas is around the corner anyways!

Do you think it would give it an "in wall" feeling by doing this?

all I know is I am........

I don't think it will give you the look your going for. You want it to be a focus piece so with that in mind I would look into a more elegant color. If I recall correctly, it will be by the stairs right? If that's the case I would look more to matching it to the staircase or piece of furniture. Also would be fun to try to match hardware to something near it as well. Personally I think when the furniture matches, it add a touch of elegance. Either way these are MY thoughts and ideas. Hope it helps. Best of luck and have tons of fun

Jay, the new tank is actually going to go where the christmas tree is. Up against the wall between the exterior wall and the fire place. I put the 72 where it is by the stairs because I thought the tank would be too close to the window. However my ceiling is 18ft tall in the living room and there is an identical window above the one in the picture WITHOUT curtains or blinds. So sun beats in directly on the fish tank. This will also let me have both tanks up and running during the transition.

if you put the fish tank there, where will the Christmas Tree GO!!!!!?!!? ;)

The christmas tree will go where the old tank currently is.

lets talk fish!

so I currently have
-4 BG chromis
-1 pearly jawfish
-1 false clown

I am thinking of adding
-2 Watanabei Angelfish (MF pair)
-1 snowflake clown
-2 lubbocks wrasses (MF pair)

according to aqadvisor that would put me at 78% stocked.

opinions?

Ok so I know there have been a bunch of threads before about controllers. Well I wanted to be more specific to the wants I want from a controller and ask your opinion.

Wants
  • monitor temp
  • monitor ph
  • alerts (email, cell phone, app)
  • ATO
  • dosing

I don't really want to spend more then $300 on it (at least right now, might upgrade as i go)

so staying under the $300 mark would be the apex JR at 220
then there is the RKE basic with net that would put me at 360
or the apex lite at 360

i don't know what to do. Opinions?

Well today I stopped by hooked and had Adam order me an apex jr!

Can't wait to get it.

Things are starting to get moving. Tomorrow I hope to bring the stand and canopy home to start sanding it.

Next week sometime I'm hoping to have the tank cleaned up, stand and canopy panted and figure out the drilling and overflow.

Two weeks have the tank setup in the garage for a leak test

Three weeks have it in the house setup with sand and salt water to start the cycle.

you do know the Jr. still requires more to give you cell phone control right?:drum:

Right from Neptune's website

With the Apex Jr. you will be able to not only monitor what is happening in your tank, but you will also have 100% control while at home, or away to do something about it!

5 gallon every 2 weeks??? wow you're lucky...In my 90g I had to refill 5 gallon bucket almost twice a week
I thought someone here was selling a jbj ato for a pretty good price.

Yup happy coral has one for like 60 shipped. I am not sure if I should snag it up as it is not needed to get the tank going. or spend the money on other things to get the tank going.
